Midweek Mierda: Beanie Reads Buckeye Commentary
"No, it's not going to be my last year," Wells said. "I plan on being here four years."
Around the office we have long suspected that the Buckeyes turn to “The Commentary,” as the kids call it, for the latest news on their careers and lives. Thanks for confirming that Beanie.
Zinger, Tressel-style: On Wednesday Tressel presided over the 17th Annual Ohio State Spring Football Preview Luncheon. At one point, the coach took some questions from the audience, served up as softballs from television’s Jeff Hogan. Or so it seemed.
One of the questions lobbed up was, “Is there a gentleman's agreement between Big Ten coaches that once a player verbally commits to a school, the other coaches are supposedly hands off?”
Tressel's answer, without pause:
"I guess only between the gentlemen."
Zing!
Okay, so it is not as good as Steve Spurrier accusing Auburn’s players of being illiterate (scroll half way down), but that is acerbic stuff, especially for the vested one. I know Joe Tiller really let Rich have it, but Tressel's answer is surely a reference to Rodriguez’s pursuit of Pryor. This statement, combined with Tressel instantly dispatching his assistant coaches to South Florida to learn how to stop Rodriguez’s spread offense, leads me to one conclusion. It is on. November 22nd cannot arrive fast enough.
Better luck next time: In the immortal words of Homer Simpson: "This is legal, right?"
Actually, MSL it's not.
In case you did not see Eleven's Warriors piece about the Gridiron Bash being canceled, I will burst your bubble. It seems the good folks at MSL Sports forgot to check with the NCAA and make sure the 20 events they planned would not compromise the schools hosting them. When we first reported this a month ago, we inquired with Steve Snapp about whether Ohio State had been approached. Although my initial reaction was that Ohio State's lack of participation had to do with facilities use and money, it appears more likely the suits on Campus saw what the NCAA saw, only first.
So, if you were planning on traveling down to Tuscaloosa to see Alan Jackson, you are out of luck. But do not cancel your trip yet. Joan Baez is playing at the Bama Theatre that weekend.
