Midweek Mierda - Independence Day Edition

Almost equal parts football and basketball...

Jay Richardson Making Enemies - When you're a fifth round draft pick, protocol would dictate to keep your trap shut, work hard and hope you make the team. On top of this, you make nice with returning players, listen to their sage advice and melt into inner workings of the clubhouse. But, whatever you do, do not air dirty laundry and question the work ethic of some returning players. That would be really bad, but it's exactly what Jay Richardson did.

"Some of the veterans reported that we were working too hard. With me coming from Ohio State, we always worked really hard there so I was kind of used to it. But the veterans complained that they 'don't always have to do all of this crap.'"

On the 'egregiousness-scale' (yes, I made that up), it doesn't rank too high. But, why mention it at all being you've been in camp for a few weeks. Word to Jay, let someone else bring this up. Take the high road next time because, in a few weeks, you're going to be the one complaining about physical practices.

Top 10 Ranking - ESPN.com, ever quick with the backhanded slap, has a ranking today of the easiest schedules in college football. Ohio State comes in at #9. According to Mark Schlabach, our non-conference slate trumps the conference road trips to Happy Valley, Ann Arbor and Purdue - plus, Wisconsin is back on the schedule. I don't like three in-state schools on the schedule either but, with the BCS, the days of scheduling extremely difficult non-conference games are slowing going extinct.

Oden Greeted by Blazer Fans
Dispatch Football Quiz - Oh, goody, a test. The Dispatch posted a 10 question quiz to see how encyclopedic your Buckeye mind may be. I will confess I butchered it to no end - barely getting half right. No excuses. No lies. See how you perform.

Block O Reappears - Greg Oden has signed on the dotted line and is already practicing with the Portland Trailblazers. Based on the collective bargaining agreement, Oden is banking roughly 3.9 million his first year and 4.2 in his second. Options exist for the third where he would make 4.5 million. He also is already making his presence felt on the court, as talented 6'11" power forward LaMarcus Aldridge explains:

"One shot I couldn't block, and he came over my shoulder and blocked it; I was amazed. And he dunked everything around the rim."

Status quo.

Official Site Gets Style Upgrade -
If you haven't already noticed, the Official Site of Ohio State athletics has received a make-over. Gone is the cookie-cutter CSTV corporate look and in is a fresh new design with added features. It appears, however, some of the content is still making the transition. The site revamp was awarded to XOS Network, a Florida company that is a major player with sports websites both in the collegiate and professional ranks. Some of the cooler features soon to come are: 3-dimensional stats and branded video.

Happy Fourth!
